Practicing Gratitude Can Guide To Greatness

Practicing gratitude regularly is one of the best things that you can do for yourself, for your family and even for your business. It helps reduce stress, helps you put things in perspective and reminds you when life or work gets hard or bogged down, that there is still good stuff out there.

One of the simplest ways that you can practice gratitude is to get into the habit of “counting your blessings.” You might remember this from when you were little. You’d get into a funk about something small–like the neighbor hogging the Legos during a playdate–and decide that the whole world was terrible. To bring you out of it, your Mom or Dad would sit you down and make you list the good things in your life. It was a way to gain some perspective and, for a lot of us, a great mood booster.

This activity is still useful as an adult. In fact, it may be even more useful now. If you’re out of practice, that’s okay: here are a few “blessings”–things to be thankful for–that you can think about to help you jumpstart a sense of gratitude:

Your Health

My dad always said, “If you have your health, you have everything.” As a homeopathic physician for almost 20 years, I truly get that health comes first. I also see how hard business owners drive themselves. So thank your body for taking good care of you and carrying you along this far in life. Then enjoy some good downtime over the holiday with extra sleep, lots of laughs and some healthy separation from your business.

Your Business

Having your own business is one of the truest forms of freedom there is. We are so blessed to be able to express our creativity through our products and services. Having your own business means that you can create the lifestyle you want to live, plus help everyone around you have a better life experience. I am so grateful that I could not hold a job! Being a business owner was my only option!

Your Loved Ones

Whether you will be spending the holiday with family, friends or your animals, you are surrounded by those who love you. Love is a powerful thing. It can heal you from the inside out. Stop for as many moments as you can over this holiday to take in the love around you. That love will give you fuel to share your gratitude and be productive in the coming year.

Your Laughter

Laughing is one of my favorite activities. It’s an instant feel-good response and it gives your entire body and mind a lift. Feel grateful for the giggles. Thank goodness for my husband. He keeps me laughing all the time.

Often we can get upset over the little challenges, and when you think about it, they are not worth the energy you give them. Instead, look at the funny side, the ironic side and the goofy side. The truth is you will probably laugh about it later anyway, so why not start laughing now.

Spend some time thinking about all that you are grateful for. Then spend some more time spreading that around to others.

Happy Thanksgiving from me to you!
