Our 8 Greatest Hits from The SCALE Virtual Retreat – from Kara Goldin, Lisa Nichols, and MORE

My team and I had a BLAST with all of our incredible guests at The SCALE Virtual Retreat last week!

Even though it was completely online, this year turned out to be the most powerful SCALE experience we’ve ever had. Not only did our speakers totally wow us, our guests came through with such amazing insight and passion. I already can’t wait for next year.

Couldn’t be there? Here are the top Greatest Hits from the event!

1. KARA GOLDIN – INSTEAD OF LETTING YOUR DOUBTS OVERCOME YOU, JUST GO TRY.

The founder and CEO of the incredibly successful Hint Water, Kara has had her fair share of doubts and doubters. Starting with an idea that beverage company executives told her was “just terrible,” Kara has now built a $150 Million empire, advertised during the Super Bowl, and become a top competitor to Coca Cola and Pepsi.

Her secret:

“Don’t allow those doubts to ever get so big. If you’re in a ‘doubting party,’ you can always find people who will agree with you. Your best friends will even join in with you. Don’t get that far along the way! Just go try. See what will happen!”

2. LISA NICHOLS – WINNERS NEVER QUIT, QUITTERS NEVER WIN.

Lisa Nichols praying with AllisonLisa Nichols, one of the most requested speakers in the world and a guest expert on the blockbuster film The Secret, totally blew us away with this simple piece of wisdom.

You can’t win a race if you never take the first step. It’s not always comfortable, and there will always be a price you pay along the way for what you want. But as Lisa said, “Conviction and convenience don’t live on the same street.”

Right now, you have the choice to take the leap and possibly reach your dream goals…  or stay where you are and be guaranteed that you won’t. Which will you choose?

3. CAMERON HEROLD – USE THE “HARO” CONCEPT TO GET HIGH-LEVEL PR AND PUT YOURSELF AT THE TOP OF YOUR INDUSTRY.

Cameron is the mastermind behind the success of hundreds of high-level companies — including 1-800-GOT-JUNK’s growth from $2M to $106M in 6 years — and has helped make over 5,200 media placements in those same six years, including coverage on Oprah.

One of Cameron’s favorite strategies is the HARO Concept, or the “Help A Reporter Out” approach. Reporters are always looking for good stories — so you need to position yourself as the person who can give them that.

When you do that, not only can you land spots in exclusive outlets, you can get THEM to reach out to YOU!

4. COLETTE CARLSON – GREAT LEADERS REFLECT, NOT DEFLECT.

As humans, criticism and conflict are probably the hardest things for us to deal with… but if you’re not open to them, you’re missing an enormous opportunity for growth in your company (specifically, revenue growth).

A company culture and leadership expert of more than 20 years, Colette Carlson says that companies with leaders who openly accept feedback from their team, rather than defending against it, consistently have the highest levels of both connection AND productivity — especially when the feedback is unfavorable.

The lesson: if you want to increase your bottom line, get curious instead of critical.

5. MICHAEL BERNOFF – BE HONEST ABOUT WHERE YOU ARE… SO YOU CAN GET SUPPORT THAT ACTUALLY HELPS YOU.

As CEOs, it’s easy to feel like we can (or have to) get to that next level all on our own. But in reality, we all need help to make our dreams become a reality. And if you try to go it alone, you are losing out on the chance to break through.

Michael Bernoff, the leading expert in influence, persuasion, and communication, couldn’t have put it better in his presentation: “When you pretend everything is great, you push away the help you really need.”

Ask yourself: What am I saying is OK that I really need help on? What if getting to that next level was as easy as getting a little guidance or support?

6. STOP ASKING “HOW?” AND START ASKING “WHO?”

Once you know your vision and are open to help, the best thing you can do to get there is to surround yourself with the right people. Especially when you’re at a high level, you don’t always have to look at HOW to do it — it’s really about the WHO.

Aristotle Onassis, the shipping magnate, once said that if he lost his multi-million dollar fortune and was left with just $500, he would spend it on a fancy dinner so he could get in front of the right people who could open doors for him.

Who are you going to align with that is going to open the door for you… or do it for you?

7. STRATEGY IS NOTHING IF YOU DON’T TAKE ACTION.

Having a strategy is fantastic, but right now, the most important thing you can do to ensure your success is to just go for it.

It doesn’t matter what your choice is. What matters is that you are willing to make a decision, put your all into it, and leap into the next phase.

Remember — the imperfect plan that you act on will always be 100% more effective than the perfect plan you never act on.

8. THIS TIME IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY FOR REIMAGINATION AND REINVENTION. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT!

Instead of looking at this as a time of struggle or overwhelm, see it for what it really is: your opportunity to completely transform your business.

Life isn’t just pushing you right now. It’s opening up new ideas, strategies, markets, and doors for you! But like I’ve said before, these will not be around forever. You have to strike now to take maximum advantage of them. It’s now or never.

So what are you waiting for?
