What Leadership is Not

Fact: There is a true and false definition, one that serves you and one that does not, and it is time to redefine your definition of leadership. Make the shift from defining leadership as a list of characteristics, and define leadership by what you do. Who you are is important, but the big picture is more important. As a whole, action is what defines you as a leader. If you choose action, you will make the big shift from entrepreneur to 7-figure enterprise. And, I guarantee that you will redefine leadership with my S.C.A.L.E Formula.

The Big Shift: Choosing action over inaction, activity over authority
One of the most difficult things to grasp is the definition of leadership. To become the leader you were meant to be, you have to realize that leadership is more important that holding a position of authority. If the goal is to inspire, then your leadership should be a source of inspiration not a list of list of skills on a resume or a breakdown of attributes from a personality test. The formula is laid out in front of you, but first there are 4 things you need to understand about great leadership.
4 Things You Need to Understand About Leadership
The S.C.A.L.E Formula® – Step #4: Defining Leadership. Just like the thousands of entrepreneurs that I have worked with, you need to recognize great leadership. The massive success that I am talking about, scaling your business to make the big shift from entrepreneur to 7-figure enterprise, depends on you becoming the leader you were meant to be. Here are my 4 things you need to understand about leadership.
- Leadership is not authority.
Leadership and authority are not synonymous. Don’t get me wrong, leadership and authority can go hand-in-hand. But, more often than not, authority must be set aside to prioritize great leadership. Now that you have found your alliance, authority must be bestowed, even shared amongst your strong and talented team. To become the leader you were meant to be, you must prioritize the big picture. And, the big picture is choosing to influence and inspire others to achieve a common goal.
- Leadership is not ground-breaking.
Leadership is inspiration, not the innovation itself. Yes, you are an entrepreneur at heart, but to make the big shift from entrepreneur to 7-figure enterprise requires more than ground-breaking ideas. Leadership is action, and great leadership is inspiration.
The kind of inspiration that I am talking about is the kind that drives implementation. If you want to become the leader you were meant to be, then do not just dream up a movement – level up by inspiring your alliance and instigating a fundamental change in your industry.
- Leadership is not playing the role of role model.
Leadership is actions over appearance. A leading entrepreneur acts as a role model. The CEO of a 7-figure enterprise acts as a leader. There is a difference between just setting the bar and setting a goal for your followers. Make the shift from just valuing how you carry yourself and valuing how the actions of other people achieve the great goal. Be a leader to your team by choosing action over appearances.
- Leadership is not action alone.
Leadership is not a solo act – by definition it is a cause for action amongst other people. The actions of an entrepreneur are commonly assumed to be a solo act. To make the big shift from entrepreneur to 7-figure enterprise, and become the leader you were meant to be, you have to align action with a common goal, achievement with other people, and success with an alliance.
What you need to understand about great leadership is that it is about understanding motivation. Your current success is a direct result of you understanding your own motivations. And, don’t get me wrong, being self-aware is essential. But, what about the motivations of those around you?
It becomes infinitely easier to up-level your success if there is a shared motivation towards a common goal. That is where your alliance comes in! Leadership is not easy, but great leadership is the key to reaching your pinnacle. Choose to lead your team by choosing to inspire action, and you will make the big shift from entrepreneur to 7-figure enterprise.
