Six Foolproof Ways to Keep Your Energy Bank Full
Do you sometimes feel like your business is draining you of energy and you have nothing left in the tank for family, friends, and having fun? The first step to reclaiming your true self in business and in life is to find out where the energy leaks reside so that you can begin to repair them. Then you can focus your energy in a direction that is feeding you—not draining you. You have the ability to create and change your reality in every moment. Since thoughts are energy, it makes sense to choose positive thoughts and actions that benefit you by replenishing and expanding your supply of energy. Below are a half dozen ways to keep your energy bank full at all times.
1. RECHANNEL STRESS
Instead of stressing about all of the things that you can’t control and will deplete your energy bank, why not rechannel that energy into your Big Picture Vision? Visualize unplugging from negativity around you or a circumstance that is getting you down and then plugging into something that makes you happy. Focus on potential solutions or the lessons learned for a better next outcome. Or, better yet, why not go to bed at night with some reserve energy for the next day
2. JUST SAY “NO”
As a business owner and leader, it’s not so easy to say “No.” You want to please people and make them happy.
But know this: The bigger your company grows, the more “No’s” you will need to express. One of the signs of a good leader is setting boundaries for yourself, which must become a regular part of your daily practice. This could mean declining the big things—a business deal or opportunity that may seem exciting, but won’t move you toward your Big Picture Vision—or the smaller things, such as spending more on the elaborate packaging that won’t move the needle on increasing sales.
It really is okay to say, “No.” The more you say “No” and set boundaries for yourself and your organization, the more time you’ll have to devote to the things that really matter.
3. REFLECT POSITIVITY IN YOUR ENERGY MIRROR
Your surroundings are merely a mirror of your inner beliefs. Your reality is a mirror of your internal thoughts and feelings. For example, a person who is convinced that most new businesses fail shouldn’t start one. Why? Because this thought becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
You may be thinking, “I don’t express those negative thoughts; I just think them.”
Or, you may be thinking: “I’m not being negative, I’m being realistic and preparing for the worst.”
As a long time business coach, I have news for you: Even if you are not voicing your fears or beliefs or believe you are just being “realistic,” you are emitting a negative frequency into the atmosphere with your negative thought.
This doesn’t mean that every single negative thought will create more negativity or lost opportunities. However, if you continue to focus on your limiting beliefs, your life will reflect that same internal energy. The good news is that it is reversible. Once internal negative thoughts are replaced with winning beliefs, your external world will begin to change in a dramatic way.
4. SHOVE NEGATIVE PEOPLE OFF YOUR ENERGY BUS
The energy mirror is all around you in your business life. This means exactly what you think: If you surround yourself with positive people, positive things will happen. Enmesh yourself in a business network that nourishes you. If you surround yourself with toxic people, well…you get the picture.
Of course, everyone has a bad day. A lapse every now and then is understandable. It goes without saying that everyday disagreements, honest opinions, and reality checks don’t necessarily make a person negative. Differing perspectives and points of view are welcome in an organization, even if they don’t mesh with yours.
Then you have the Debbie Downers—the people who believe everything will come crashing down. You know these individuals: They are solely focused on the problem, not the solution. They become so wrapped up in the negative outcomes that they don’t realize they are the problem.
Only hire and retain people who believe in your Big Picture Vision and spread positive messages about your company.
5. WRITE IT TO RELEASE IT
Journaling can be an excellent way to rid yourself of negative thoughts that deplete your energy bank. You don’t have to be a brilliant writer to get started. All you need is a notebook and a pen.
Find yourself a quiet, comfortable spot. Don’t think—just starting scribbling down whatever is on your mind. Let the words flow. By writing in a stream of consciousness style, you release the emotions attached to the things that are troubling you. The process becomes cathartic, even if solutions to the problems don’t immediately present themselves.
6. PASSION FEEDS YOUR SOUL
On second thought, maybe you are a brilliant writer and writing is your passion. Or, maybe it’s something else: art, photography, singing, painting, sculpture, building things, or knitting. Or, maybe it’s a sport: tennis, bowling, skiing, biking, or climbing. Whatever your hobby or interest might be, make time for it!
When you are engrossed in a non-work-related passion project, the sting of the problems troubling you will fade. This is when you will do your most revolutionary, innovative thinking and will come up with solutions to many of your dilemmas.
You are no doubt familiar with the cliché “You are what you eat.” Well, as you’ve deduced from these half dozen ways to keep your energy bank full, you are also what you think.
Fill yourself with positive thoughts about your Big Picture Vision at all times and you will have plenty of fuel in your tank to make it across the finish line—with gallons to spare!
