What do I mean when I say expand your presence to expand your business?  It’s simple.  Expanding your presence is about expanding your mind.  It is what you think of yourself and what others think of you – if you expand the limits, you will expand your business.  The big shift from entrepreneur to 7-figure enterprise requires setting yourself up for big expansion.  If you view yourself as small, others will see you that way too.

Here are my 7 ways to expand your presence, so you can expand your business.


  1. Conversation is a Skill.

It’s good to be a conversationalist, it’s great to be a communicator.  My S.C.A.L.E Formula will set you up to expand your business, but expansion requires great communication.  Expand your conversation skills, and you will expand your business.


  • Body Language – Be aware of your body language and read the body language of your team. There is a lot that can be read between the lines.  Watch the signals.
  • Word Choice – Choose your words intention. Script what you want to say.  Be concise, but also precise.  Tell a story if that communicates the meaning better.
  • Listen – 20% of your job is to talk, and 80% of your job is to listen. Ask questions, repeat back what you hear, and confirm your understanding.  This is not a time for distractions.


  1. Get Down in the Trenches.

Get into the thick of things, off the sideline and into the game.  It’s time to get your hands dirty.  Behind the desk is no place for a leader looking to expand their business.  To make the big shift from entrepreneur to 7-figure enterprise, step outside your office and get off the bench.  Meet your team on the factory floor, talk with them in the break room and work alongside them in their work space.


  1. Have Lunch with You Alliance.

The most powerful and successful leaders do it.  Sharing a meal is a daily ritual, decide to share it with you team.  If you want to expand your business, you have to expand your understanding of your team.  Share in a day-to-day ritual.


  • New Opportunities – to inspire, motivate and connect.
  • New Insights – foster an environment for new ideas to be brought to the table.
  • New Culture – establish a culture, while proving to reduce stress and improve profits.


  1. Be Active Offline and Online.

Social media is a powerful tool and humanizing medium.  Let your alliance, your clients and your network see you behind the scenes.  Expansion is simple if you share who you are and communicate your expertise.


  • Competitive Edge – Showcase your innovative side, and practice what you preach.
  • Humanize your Brand – Soften the edges and peel back a layer.
  • Build Relationships – Connect your team, clients and network through media.


  1. Accountability Starts with You.

Pointing a figure does nothing, taking accountability means everything.  Playing the part of a boss does not expand your business.  A great leader expands their business, because they take accountability.  Prevent history from repeating itself – you are always part of the problem and part of the solution.  Ask questions, listen to answers, and propose a solution.


  1. Have Their Back.

It is more than just support and understanding.  Sympathy is not as powerful as empathy.  Show Your Alliance that you have their back!


  • Give Credit – Acknowledge their contribution.
  • Give Recognition – Show your appreciation.
  • Give Dedication – Get to know their strengths and weaknesses, so you can and learn how to inspire them daily.


  1. Encourage Feedback.

Ask the right questions, listen to the real answers and do something about it.  Criticism is hard to take.  It is easier said than done to encourage feedback.  But, if you do, you and your team will experience the Big Expansion – growth in your presence and growth in your business.


  • Ask Insightful Questions – What would you change?  How can we help you feel – Rewarded, Motivated, Successful?
  • Drop Suggestion Box – No one likes a black hole. Try a flow chart for Your Alliance to insert their feedback into the mix.  What is working and what isn’t in the grand scheme?
  • Team Up, Coach Up – Everyone can be a coach. Team up to coach each other through the growing pains.  It’s about trust.  Encourage feedback and address any issues.
